Trench Former MHD

Municipal Heavy Duty - Roads & Airports

Any special flow and depth requirements can be achieved with our TrenchFormer MHD Concrete cast-in-place Trench Forming System. All our patented TrenchFormer trench forming systems deliver greater flexibility for challenging specifications and projects. Specifically designed for roads and airports, TrenchFormer MHD features ASTM A-36 structural steel frame that maximizes load transference into the encasement concrete. The attractive grate designs are lightweight for ease of maintenance and greater inflow area with no sacrifice in strength.

TrenchFormer MHD cast-in-place trench forming system provides a complete assembly of parts needed to handle medium to heavy-duty applications found in municipalities, roadways, and industrial facilities.

U-Leg

No-float U-Legs eliminate subgrade barrier penetration common with most competitors systems and the concrete anchoring slab holds the forming system firmly in place.

Adjustable Clamp

The adjustable clamp allows the formwork to be micro-adjusted once the anchoring slab is poured over the bottom of the u-legs and prevents uneven joints.

Anchor Studs

Welded concrete studs independently anchor the frame into the surrounding concrete delivering structural load transfer and maximum service life.

EPS Former

Expanded Polystyrene formers can be cut with any desired custom slope and are used to create our standard radius bottom TFX systems, or any custom shape, cast-in-place concrete trench.

Deforming Groove

The center V-shaped section aids installation alignment with the adjoining former sections.  After concrete placement, the deforming "V" will break free and enables easy deconstruction of the trench.

Intrinsic Trench Sediment Control and Safety

EPS Formers ensure there are no open trenches during concrete placement and curing. Formers can support light pedestrian traffic and remain in place during construction to serve as an EPA sediment and trash control BMP (best management practice).

Cross Ties

Metal cross ties hold structural steel rails tight to the foam former for consistent horizontal spacing.

Structural Rail

Most manufacturers use sheet metal overlay rails.  Our structural steel angle is independently anchored to maximize load transference into the encasement concrete.

Color Coded Labels

Color-coded labels allow easy matching with other system components.

Pin Lock Retention System

Our patented four-point pin lock system provides longitudinal and vertical grate retention designed specifically to resist dynamic loading. The non-rigid system also eliminates thermal-induced stresses that traditionally cause concrete and bolt failures in frame and cover systems.

MHD Grate System

The advanced American-made ductile iron grate design yields faster inflow rates without any sacrifice in strength and less weight for ease of handling and installation.

ROAD AND HIGHWAYS

Concrete consolidation under the rail is vital to the longevity of any system in service under heavy loading.  Fiberglass and HDPE linear systems can hide construction defects, which can cause costly downtime and ultimately complete system failure. TrenchFormer allows the inspectability of the most critical components in high-load applications.

MHD 8″, 12″ or 18″ advanced grate design is not only attractive, but it also provides strength and performance. MHD grates provide the largest inflow area available in cast grates for 8”, 12”, and 18” trenches. While still lightweight, they far exceed all AASHTO load ratings.

MHD’s patented system utilizes four ductile iron bar locks for every grate providing both longitudinal and vertical grate retention. Only two bars must be removed per grate for easy construction or trench maintenance. Additionally, this high-performing industrial trench system eliminates concrete cracking from tensile stress by constrained thermal expansion and contraction which is often found in rigid four-bolt systems.

Cast-In-Place Trench Drain Molds For Highway & Airports
MHD does not utilize low modulus materials(plastic, fiberglass, etc.) between the rails and concrete, thus avoiding failure at the grate seat area due to dissimilar material construction.

The system can be configured for any applications special flow and depth requirements. A large range of trench depths, slopes and configurations provides the Engineer with greater flexibility for challenging projects. Additionally, the system is pre-engineered and factory-fabricated reducing the potential for construction errors in the field.

MHD is available in both roadway and airport configurations. The roadway configuration maximizes the width of the industrial trench system, thus providing optimal hydraulic capacity. MHD-A maximizes the bearing area and is intended for regional or municipal airports.
