- Engineered to enhance both mechanical strength and hydraulic capacity.
- Made of ductile iron instead of grey iron, this new grate is stronger than ever. Load capacity has increased from Load Class 15.8 to Load Class 31.2.
- The new design almost doubles the inflow capacity of the previous 1502.14 by increasing open area from 36% to 65%.
- This clean bicycle safe design gives a fresh new look to surface drainage technology.
- Best of all, these major design improvements come without an increase in cost.
Earlier #1502 grate designs are still available by special order, subject to demand, contact ABT's sales for revised part numbers.

How We Test Our Grates
Test Procedure: Grate/cover is placed in support fixture in a load testing machine. A 4 in (100 mm) diameter by 6 in (150 mm) steel rod is located longitudinally at grates/covers weakest point (column, shear or beam). Load is applied to steel rod until grate/cover fails (will not support load). Minimum failure load is used in the formula above. Load Class is based on the worst case service load carrying capacity per linear foot of grate/cover. Test assumes a line load with a minimum of contact area. Actual applications may involve a larger load contact patch, thereby increasing load carrying capacity.
